He was sent to bind me or kill me. He chose to write my name where the light falls best. Rowan Mercer has closed sixty contracts for the Register. He has never once failed to neutralize a target - until the gate of Vane Court swings open before he touches it, and a three-hundred-year-old vampire looks at him like he's been waiting three centuries for exactly this. The contract says neutralize or bind. Rowan has read the fine print. He knows what the clause really does: whichever door he walks through, he becomes the instrument. A weapon fate never asked him to be. Cassius Vane keeps a room full of names - everyone who ever mattered, inked on the wall of a house that buries its own dead.
